Germany’s Krahn Chemie and Finland’s FP-Pigments have agreed to cooperate on sales and marketing of the Finnish company’s opacity pigments for paint, coating and printing ink applications in Germany. The FP series, manufactured in Finland, Germany and the US, consists of titanium dioxide fixed with calcium carbonate.

Because of their high opacity, the pigments, which can be used in aqueous as well as solvent-based coating systems and printing inks, are said to enable a partial substitution of titanium dioxide, in the range of 10-30%. Other applications are in corrosion protection coatings and powder coatings, as well as can and coil coatings. The pigments additionally are claimed to improve wet abrasion and stain resistance, have a high UV reflectivity, gloss retention and color fastness.
